How we collect, use, store and disclose personal information, and how we comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

CED Security is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose personal information, and how we comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Because of the nature of our work, we handle information that requires particular care — including security system data and, in some cases, footage and access records. This policy sets out how we manage it.
From website visitors and enquiries — name, business name, phone number, email address and postal address; site addresses and details about the premises you're enquiring about; the content of your enquiry or correspondence with us; and technical data collected automatically, such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed and time on site.
From clients — contact details for authorised representatives and site contacts; billing and account information; site plans, access requirements and system configuration details; and records of works performed, service history and support requests.
In the course of installing, configuring and supporting security systems, we may have access to CCTV footage and recorded images, access control credentials and entry/exit logs, alarm event records, and — where facial recognition or other biometric functionality is deployed at a client's direction — biometric information.
Biometric information is sensitive information under the Privacy Act, and attracts additional protections. We collect and handle it only where necessary, and only with the appropriate consents in place.
We collect information directly from you — through our website enquiry forms, phone calls, emails, quotes, site visits and the course of performing works.
We may also collect information from third parties where you've engaged them to act for you, such as a builder, property manager, body corporate or head contractor.
Where we access system data (footage, logs, credentials), we generally do so as a service provider acting on our client's instructions, in the course of commissioning, configuring, troubleshooting or supporting a system. The client typically remains responsible for that data as its owner or controller.
We use personal information to respond to enquiries and provide quotes; design, install, configure, commission and support security systems; manage our client relationships, accounts and billing; meet warranty, support and contractual obligations; comply with legal, regulatory, licensing and insurance requirements; improve our website and services; and send you information about our services, where you've consented (you can opt out at any time).
We do not sell personal information, and we do not disclose it for third-party marketing.
We may disclose personal information to our staff and contractors, where needed to perform works; our monitoring partner, where you have engaged monitored alarm services; equipment manufacturers and suppliers, for warranty claims and technical support; related CED Services Group entities, where your project involves more than one trade (for example electrical or fire services); professional advisers, insurers and auditors; and law enforcement or regulators, where required or authorised by law — including in response to a warrant, subpoena or lawful request for footage or access records.
We do not otherwise disclose CCTV footage or access records to third parties without the client's authorisation or a lawful requirement to do so.
Overseas disclosure: some equipment platforms and cloud services we use may store or process data on servers outside Australia. Where that applies to your system, we will tell you before deployment and take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate protections are in place.
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These include restricting access to client data to staff who need it for their role; password protection and access controls on our own systems; secure handling of system credentials and configuration data; confidentiality obligations on our staff and contractors; and secure disposal or de-identification of information we no longer need.
While we take security seriously, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to us over the internet.
Where we install CCTV, access control or biometric systems, the client is generally the owner and controller of the data those systems generate. Clients have their own obligations, which may include displaying appropriate signage where surveillance is in operation; obtaining consent where required — particularly for biometric or facial recognition systems; complying with the Privacy Act, the Surveillance Devices Act 1999 (Vic), and workplace surveillance requirements; setting appropriate retention periods and securing recorded footage; and managing requests for access to footage.
We're happy to discuss how these obligations affect system design, but this policy is not legal advice and clients should obtain their own advice on their compliance obligations.
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to operate correctly and to understand how visitors use the site. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not function properly as a result.
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described above, or as required by law, warranty periods, insurance or contractual obligations. When it's no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
You can request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it's inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity, and in limited circumstances permitted by law we may decline a request — in which case we'll explain why.
Requests for CCTV footage are handled differently, as footage is generally the client's data. If you're seeking footage from a site we've installed, contact the site owner or occupier in the first instance.
If you believe we've mishandled your personal information, contact us using the details below with the details of your concern. We'll investigate and respond in writing.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992.
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on our website, with the date it was last updated shown at the top.
